Lessons learned from the distance learning centers of the Global Development Learning Network : reflections on possible impacts of distance learning for public managers in Latin America

The GDLN has great potential to add value to the reform and development processes currently being implemented in many countries around the world.It also faces several unique challenges as it enters into its third year of operation, challenges which will require a critical analysis of lessons learned to date and the application of new solutions in those areas where particular difficulties remain.The challenge of ensuring impact of GDLN learning events for public managers is centered on three critical areas: responding to the training needs of public sector institutions; drawing on the benefits of distance learning to maximize quality, relevance, and immediacy of training; and facilitating continuous learning. This paper explores lessons learned in each of these areas by Distance Learning Centers (DLCs) in eight countries in Latin America and the Caribbean.
