This book is intended for those who need to know something about organizational behavior in order to manage, or survive in, organizations. Most of the organizational literature they read is social-pshychological and heavily oriented toward leadership problems and human relations. In contrast, I have relied upon a sociological approach and emphasized organizational structure, goals, and environment. In working with a variety of organizations it has been my experience that manipulating the structure, analyzing the goals, and grasping the nature of the environment are more practical and efficient ways of dealing with organizational problems than trying to change human behavior directly, and that is the essential argument of the book
