We wanted to write an American government textbook that students would like and would credit for shaping their thinking about politics. The response to the first edition of The Challenge of Democracy was gratifying.
We have tried to discuss a complex subjetc, politics, in a captivating and understandable way.
We think taht an introductory American government text can go beyond simply offering students basic information about the political process. A text can also teach students how political scientists think about political events, trends and problems.
