Political sociology -the examination of political systems through a sociological approach- is a relatively new field of study, one that is fast gaining importance for both the political scientist and the sociologist. To date, the literature available to the student has been slight, most of it scattered in scholarly journals or embedded in texts primarly devoted to other subjects. The need for a dependable introduction to the study of political sociology has been growing for some time -and Mr. Wiseman has now provided it. His comprehensive survey summarizes, for the first time in a single volume, the theories of many of the most eminent and influential political scientist of our time- Gabriel Almond, David Easton, Edward Shils, Seymour M. Lipset, T. B. Bottomore, James S. Coleman, Leonard Binder, Robert K. Merton, David Apter, to name a few.
